Delilah Jones // Revolutionist collage art work
Delilah Jones is a 23years-old New York photographer/collage artist/poet currently living in Portland, where she indulges in collage magic and milkshakes. Using a pair of scissors and glue, she finally found her creative part that had to be uncovered.Namely, she started exploiting the power of images of both dull and quirky facets of life. Delilah left her life-long affair with photography in her effort produce symbolism through collages with juxtaposition of contrasting worlds as well as words, and dark humor.
One cannot but simply admire her imaginative take on collages, which persistently create a dialogue between the viewer and these eerie pictures. Moreover, with her original pieces of work and her excellent composition skills she gave new meaning to collages. Simply put, her work is a dazzling spectacle.
As part of her exploration and relationship with mixed media, she produced a series of collages called ‘Portal’. Upon first sight, these collage pieces seem collected and carefully layered with emotion. Looking further at the ‘Portal’ series Delilah is tore in pieces images to express a pathway in time, a cosmic gate into parallel realities.
Recently inspired by the works of the infamous Duane Michal and Fred Tomaselli she gathered discarded material such as old magazines from free piles and gave them a finishing re-touch. The result is revolutionary. Her collages can travel you into their original works, while creating unusual narratives contained by strange worlds forgotten in the flatten era we live in. Then, while glancing at this series you will be again surprised by the nostalgia she recreates.
I came across her work at an early stage and yet I am so looking forward to seeing her grow as an artist! Her latest project is named ‘Ice-cream kingdoms’ and constitutes of a collaborative effort with Jesse Treece, translated into a book.by Maria Passarivaki
